The Vedanta Society Of Greater Houston
is a spiritual non-profit organization founded in 2003. The aim of the society is to conduct spiritual programs that bring a better understanding of the vedantic concepts. Weekly programs and classes are conducted with this aim. Monthly retreats are conducted by Swamis (monks) visiting from all over America and abroad.
CLASSES
Classes on a variety of topics and sacred texts are held at the society by the resident Swami on Sundays at 11:00, Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m., and Thursdays at 11:00 am. All classes are open to public. Please see the Events for information regarding current and future event timings and topics.
CHILDREN'S SUNDAY SCHOOL
During the current school year we have a Sunday School program for children 6 years old and above during the Sunday service, 11:00-12:30. The interactive classes are fun, engaging, and include prayers, meditation, custom-made lessons, and simple religious stories. For more information please inquire at the Temple or call Swami Atmarupananda.
RETREATS
Retreats are gatherings of spiritual seekers, organized by the society around a theme taught by visiting Swamis as well as the resident minister. Various aspects of spiritual life are taught in an interactive way, where attendees can ask questions and have their doubts clarified. All retreats are open to public, and all are welcome.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Throughout the year there are several celebrations held by the Society, including: the birth anniversaries of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Sarada Devi, and Swami Vivekananda; Durga Puja (the autumnal worship of the Divine Mother Durga); Kali Puja (the worship of the Goddess Kali); the Christmas Eve worship of Jesus; Shiva Ratri (the Night of Shiva); and occasional music and dance concerts.
