Weekly Online Upanishad Class by Swami Atmarupananda

We are happy to announce an online class led by our former Resident Monk, Revered Swami Atmarupanandaji Maharaj, taking place on the fourth Saturday of the month. The class is hosted by VSGH and especially meant for his Houston and Bulgarian devotees. The class will be hosted via YouTube Live to allow everyone to tune in seamlessly.

Description: On the fourth Saturday of every month, with rare exceptions that will be announced ahead of
time, we will take up the study of the Upanishads, the mūla-śāstra or root texts of the Vedanta. In fact, the word “Vedanta” means the last part of the Vedas, which is made up of the Upanishads. Written thousands of years ago, these texts preserve the earliest record of the human mind rising above the mythological realm into the light of pure nondualism. The seers of the Upanishads didn’t ask for stories to explain the universe. They asked questions such as, What is existence itself? What is consciousness? For whom does the mind think, for whom do the eyes and ears perceive? Who am I? In this world of change, is there a changeless reality against which change is perceived? Is there one knowledge through which the essence of everything is known? Does anything survive death, or are we nothing but the body?

The first class will introduce the Upanishads, and then begin the study of the Isha Upanishad, which will continue for about three classes. Then we will take up the other major Upanishads. The proposed order (subject to adjustment) is:
